KAIZEN PRESS CONFERENCE

On the 21st of March, 2016, the National KAIZEN Project organised a Press Conference at the Accra International Conference Centre. The Press Conference had the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Chief Representative of JICA, Deputy Ambassador of Japan and the Executive Director of NBSSI in attendance.

The Deputy Minister, Hon. Muntala Mohamed expressed his deepest appreciation for the intervention the Government of Japan is making for the economic development of Ghana. According to him, human resource development is crucial to wealth creation and therefore commended the National KAIZEN Project for building the capacity of staff of NBSSI and enterprises for enhanced KAIZEN BDS promotion. 

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP IN TAMALE

The National KAIZEN Project organized a Capacity Building Workshop for 10 Business Advisory Centre Heads, the Regional Manager and Project Officer in the Northern Region. The four-day workshop started from 29th March and ended on 1st April, 2016.  Participants were trained in basic MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Picture Management.  At the close of the workshop, participants indicated that they had learnt a lot of new things and commended  the organizers of the programme.

ADVANCED KAIZEN TRAINING FOR ASHANTI REGION BAC HEADS

The National Kaizen Project commenced in October, 2015. The project would have Basic KAIZEN extended to three other regions in Ghana, with Advanced KAIZEN in the Ashanti Region. As a result, OJT on Advanced KAIZEN is currently taking place in Kumasi.

Thetraining workshop whichstarted from 25th January will end on 19thMarch, 2016 at the Royal Park Hotel in Kumasi. The planned activities include Advanced Training Programme lecture, OJT on Enterprise Diagnosis, OJT on KAIZEN Activitiesand Implementation of KAIZEN by Enterprises, Presentation on KAIZEN Activities and the final briefing and experience sharing.


About 21 BAC Heads are participating in the training programme, withthree (3) Japanese expertsas Trainers. Six (6) SMEs are being used as pilot enterprises. The training program seeks to strengthen the provision and facilitation of Advanced KAIZEN methods in the region through the application of Advanced KAIZEN methods and building the capacity of BAC Heads as key implementers of the Project. Some of the KAIZEN techniques being used are Line Balancing, Quality Control Practices, Cell Production, Motion Study, Prevention Maintenance, etc.


The program is funded by the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA). The BAC Heads are actively participating in the programme and the results so far are encouraging.

MISSION OF CAMEROON KAIZEN PROJECT TO GHANA

The NBSSI Ashanti Region recently hosted a Mission from Cameroon. The Mission was drawn to the region due to the recent National Kaizen Project underway. The pilot phase of the JICA – BDS Project was implemented from April 2012 to March 2015 in the region. The Project was aimed at building the capacity of 27 BACs in KAIZEN concepts and practices in the Ashanti region. During the period, 36 SMEs benefited directly from the project activities. Other companies in the regionalso benefited by participating in seminars and workshops.

Following the success of the JICA - BDS Project and efforts of Ghana at enterprise development, the Mission was aimed at learning from the success stories and the implementation strategies of the Project. The Mission which was composed of 6 key officials from Ministries, Agencies and Private Sector in Cameroon was also interested in the operations of the NBSSI/ BACs and support of key stakeholders.

As result, from the 14th to 20th of February 2016, the Mission toured the Head Office of the NBSSI Accra, Ashanti Regional Office, 4 beneficiary enterprises, 2 BACs and Rural Enterprises Programme. As the second phase of the project titled National KAIZEN Project was underway, the Mission had the opportunity to see some Advanced Kaizen OJT sessions.
The Mission was highly impressed with the strides the JICA – BDS Project and Ghana had made in enterprise development. More importantly, all enterprises and officials visited willingly shared information on policies, programmes, plans, practices, success stories and challenges. It was apparent that the expectations of the visitors were met. Many questions on their minds were answered and business linkages were made.
